Your Black friends are tired of talking in the face until we’re blue when you’re not open to receiving the message. There was often a Black friend in the cartoons I saw growing up but they were often striped of their Blackness even down to being voiced by non-Black voice actors. Imagine how exhausting that is for viewers and for the Black characters themselves. Well, I guess you can look at this and see how exhausted they are. In the words of Curtis Mayfield, “We people, who are darker than blue.”
FYI – I’ll never be ok with Doug clearly being white and the show choosing to illustrate every character colorfully but none of them Black.
